Refuge Restoration & Roofing

Mold remediation is often seen as the final step in a stressful situation. Homeowners expect that once the work is done, the problem is over. In most cases, that is the goal, but mold can return if the conditions that allowed it to grow are not addressed.

Mold needs three things to grow: moisture, a food source such as drywall or wood, and time. Remediation removes the mold and the materials it has damaged. But if the source of moisture is still present, such as a slow leak, poor ventilation, or a damp crawlspace, mold can start growing again.

Some common reasons mold comes back after remediation:

  • The moisture source was never fully fixed
  • Materials were cleaned but not removed, so spores remained
  • The area was not dried completely before it was closed up
  • Mold was growing in a hidden space that was not inspected

A quality remediation includes finding and correcting the moisture source, containing the work area, removing affected materials, cleaning and drying the space, and confirming the results. Follow-up air quality testing can show whether the air is clean after the work is complete.

If you are concerned about mold returning, ask your restoration company what steps they took to address the source of moisture. At Refuge Restoration & Roofing, we test, document, and confirm the work so you can feel confident in your home or business. Call (678) 992-5444.
